Another Head in Bed Promotional Idea

If Domino’s advertises on room keys, why shouldn’t you? The following photo shows a typical room key, but instead of the name of the hotel on it there is a reminder that you can order a pizza here. Why not do the same thing with your tourist attractions or visitor’s center? What would it cost to print up a bunch of room keys and distribute them to your hotels in town? Or, tout why someone would want to relocate to your town. Think of the bang for your buck you could get out of a relatively small expenditure.

If your town is already doing these promotional room keys, would you let me know at jschultz@agracel.com?

I’ve received several emails on this subject. One of the best was from my friends at Dakota Cabin Quilts in Hettinger, ND, an example which I use in virtually every talk as a great example of what is possible today because of the internet. They have built a booming quilting business from that small town. Here is what they said about the idea.

Jack,

Hello, it’s always great to get your blog and read the different ideas from your “agurbs”. I can’t remember where, but we have seen these promotional keys before, once I think was Watertown, SD. I think it was from the Millhouse Café & Restaurant and they offered a free coffee or orange juice if you presented the key to your hotel, then you got your free drink. It worked, we ate there.

I thought this was a good way to use these promotional keys, you might like to know about.
