The cost and availability of engineers in Connecticut was too high, so aviation giant Sikorsky announced last month plans to develop an engineering design center in Bozeman, MT (population 27,509). The strong engineering programs at Montana State University were one of the key drivers of the move.
Rich Karlgaard, publisher of Forbes and author of Life 2.0, has often cited the advantages of engineering school towns like Bozeman. Sikorsky has opened similar centers in strong engineering towns on Lexington, KY and West Lafayette, IN within the past year.
