Promoting Rural Iowa

“We have many of the right ingredients to make Mitchell County one of the fastest growing counties in Iowa,” was in an email I received from Stan Walk a local county supervisor. I’ve been to Mitchell County, IA (population 10,970) many times and was impressed with their innovative approach to get the word out on the positive things in the county. Everyone today wears t-shirts and their promotion of using this rather low cost marketing vehicle to generate interest in the county is to be applauded.

Investors in and around Mitchell County recently raised $63 million in equity from 400 investors for a $150 million ethanol plant in only one day! The 100 million gallon plant will be built nine miles north of St. Ansgar, near the MN border. The plant will employ 45, processing 36 million bushels of corn annually.

It’s great to see small, rural counties like Mitchell County continuing to promote their attributes and helping to create jobs.
