$25/Hour to Walk Dogs?

I was talking with one of my “city slicker” CA cousins recently about life out west. This cousin related that her 24 year old daughter was making $25/hour as a professional dog walker and babysitter in San Francisco. And, that was her take-home pay! The company she worked for obviously had to charge some type of premium over her wage.

HUH!!! Is this world crazy or what?

The theme song for the classic TV Show “Green Acres” started bouncing around in my head as she was talking….

Green acres is the place to be
Farm Livin’ is the life for me
Land spreadin’ out so far and wide
Keep Manhattan…just give me that countryside

I hope that your dog doesn’t mind finding its own way around the neighborhood, out here in the agurbs®!

I own a dog walking business in San Francisco and charge #25/hour per dog and walk 6 dogs at a time. I do two groups a day of six. I also make money boarding dogs at my home. Do the math. :)

Angela: Thanks for sharing you experience. As I do the math of 12 dogs/day x $25 x 365 days I come up with $109,000/year. Is that right?

I presume that you also get some tips and make additional money by boarding dogs.

My son is packing his bags as we speak. How does he get in touch with you once he gets to SF and finds 12 dogs to walk? Just kidding!

Well, I walk dogs m-f and take weekends off, but yes you can make a good living here walking dogs in SF. Yes, extra income from boarding and petsitting, so there is a potential to make as much as you want. I try to stick with just the dog walking and boarding for my clients. Some walkers hire employees and don't work at all! Yes, your son moving here might be a good move! :) We don't have much overhead, car, gas, treats, insurance, not much for marketing as most is word of mouth....
