In today's New York Times there is a great article on the transformation happening in small towns because of the internet. The article focuses on the new trend of "the Internet propping up bricks and mortar downtown." This is a great example of how technology is changing the economy in the agurbs. In short, the internet allows small-town shops to turn over the inventory more quickly, as well as add more products and variety. E-commerce encourages more interest and customer traffic, diversifies the revenue stream and contributes to downtown street life for these shops. Read the article
