Last week I reported that Freeport, TX was undergoing a referendum on doing away with their Economic Development organization. The effort to do away with the $450,000 department was spurred by a landowner who was opposed to a city-sponsored marina. The vote was 665 in favor of keeping the EDC, while 644 voted to abolish it, a difference of 21 votes.
